What are RSS / XML used for?

Definition:
An RSS feed, acronym for “Really Simple Syndication” or «Rich Site Summary", is a Web content syndication format. This system is used to publish news from web sites or blogs, which means that this news can be quickly consulted without visiting the web site. An RSS feed can be easily identified through its orange and white icon which can be seen on the right hand side of this page.

How can RSS help you save precious time?
Each time a new product is added to www.AxesIndustries.com, we update the RSS feed and you are informed in real time. In this way, you can really monitor the product types which interest you (or all products). So, even if you do not visit our site daily, you are kept informed depending on the news. You can stop this monitoring by simply removing the RSS feed from your favourite reader.

How does it work?

The following is a real example using Feedreader:

1. Download Feedreader from the following address: http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail/1027544364/1 (click on the link DOWNLOAD NOW on the right)
2. Once downloaded, install the software by following the installation assistant instructions.
3. At the end of the installation, Feedreader will start automatically
4. In Feedreader, select the menu « File », and choose « New » then « Feed »
5. Feedreader will ask you for an RSS feed address: copy / paste one of the addresses from the list proposed further up this page. For example: http://feeds.feedburner.com/axesindustries/uk (or just click it)
6. That’s it. Feedreader will now monitor the updates on the Axesindustries.com site and inform you when a new product is introduced..
7. To remove the RSS feed for AxesIndustries, you only need to open Feedreader (a double click on its icon in the task bar, near the Windows clock), choose Feed « Axes Industries » to the left of the window and then choose « remove » in the context window which is accessed using the right mouse button.

This is a real example using the Axes Industries site, but it is also valid for all other sites proposing RSS feeds which can be identified through the icon . Repeat the same operation using the address obtained by clicking on the RSS feed icon.
